See this page.
This comes from Flying Blind.

That seems to be about Skype for Windows, rather than the new desktop version, which is less accessible than the version it replaced. Although I can use it, I cannot use it with the speed and efficiency I could before.

I'm still running windows seven, and when I saw the new Skype update and its less than friendly layout, I downgraded to a version that is way easier to use.

I tried the new skype on the mac a while back and I have to say it's absolutely awful. from what I could see and what I think they are trying to do is make everything look like that damn skype preview app you get on win 10. a lot of people from hwat I have hurd have left skype altogether because of the crap theyhave pulled in making this new skype version 8 and I don't blame them at all.

Post 5 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 27-Dec-2017 19:03:20

I think they are trying to do the same thing with the desktop version of Skype. While I was trying to figure it out, it said something about Skype preview.

Post 6 by zackmack2000 ( extreme killer of the keys) on Wednesday, 27-Dec-2017 20:18:47

See what I mean? I told you, they are making the desktop versions on both mac and windows look like the damn skype preview app you get with windows 10 by default, complete and total garbage

You are always given a choice.
"do you want to try this?"
Say no, and your fine.

Post 8 by renegade rocker (I just keep on posting!) on Wednesday, 27-Dec-2017 23:36:06

Exactly, I say no, and it doesn't ask ever again. I'm fortunit I kept a .exe of the classic skype around for just such times.

Post 9 by Siriusly Severus (The ESTJ 1w9 3w4 6w7 The Taskmaste) on Thursday, 28-Dec-2017 1:44:51

what choice? I was given no choice. maybe it's mac update desktop. I don't
think I could go back either so I just deleted it and now just use it on the phone
it works decently on the phone. The new version was atrocious and I had a
message I wrote that never sent. I got frustrated with it. I am pretty good with
computers and software but not that.

I keep forgetting about it which is fine for me, I like being a hermit!

Ireverted back to an older skype, after seeing the new skype Microsoft can keep it. In short, I did not like the interface layout.

Go to Skype.com
Reinstall the desktop version.
Now you will get that choice.
You just most likely missed the question, but you are given a choice.

is there a way to revert it back to the previous version of Skype? the latest version is almost unusable. it is not user friendly at all.

Post 13 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2018 9:12:46

You could just reset your computer back before the time you installed it if you've got it setup that way.
But I believe you can just download the desktop version, if we are talking PC.
Mac, I have no idea, but this article should help.

Also, here in America, you can contact the answer desk, and they'll assist you.

Post 15 by zackmack2000 ( extreme killer of the keys) on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2018 11:16:30

yeah, on the mac side you can, just be sure you copied the old skype app before it got upgrade, then replace the upgraded one with the old one and all should be fine, and yes, skype 7 i'm sure you can find from oldversion.com or something like that

Post 16 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 10-Jan-2018 12:44:28

This page describes it better then I can.
When you go to Skype.com there is actually a link for the desktop version, but you'll need to search for it.

Got this information from Flying Blind email, but it is also directly on the Skype support page. This makes it easier to go back if desired for Windows and Mac users.

and download skype 7.4
3. install skype and it should run as before.
4. when you have install skype, there is a message prompting you to update skype, unchet the box where it says 'show this message when i open skype'
5. tab until you hear no, and press enter.

enjoy

That's the version I run.
7.40051 or like that. I never updated to the app version and it doesn't bother me once I said no.

Post 20 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 14-Jan-2018 15:46:35

Every time I sign in to Skype, I keep getting asked if I want to update to the latest version, even though I have audimadic updates turned off in Skype's settings. Is there any way I can stop this message from coming up?

Post 21 by forereel (Just posting.) on Sunday, 14-Jan-2018 20:50:16

Yes. Stop signing in.
Set it to automaticly sign you in, but not start when Windows starts.
You find that under the general setting tab.
Says sign me in when Skype starts.
So you can start Skype manually, but you don't need to sign in.

Post 22 by season (the invisible soul) on Sunday, 14-Jan-2018 22:57:04

that is nothing to do with either manual sign in or automatic sign in. when you see the message pop up, press space bar where it says 'do not show this message again' and press space bar or enter on no button.

Thanks Joanne!

Post 24 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 15-Jan-2018 14:08:22

Sure, but if you don't sign on all the time, the message stays at bay. At least for me it did.
I didn't check the box for a while, because I was undecided and wanted to play with it.

Post 25 by forereel (Just posting.) on Monday, 15-Jan-2018 14:08:52

But, yes, once I did, it goes away.

Post 26 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 16-Jan-2018 17:24:14

I got the same update notification today. I didn't see any checkboxes about not showing this again.

Post 27 by ADVOCATOR! (Finally getting on board!) on Tuesday, 16-Jan-2018 17:55:58

You only had trouble with Skype? I lost my whole user account on my computer. Now, someone has to come reset my computer all up, and try to retrieve all my BARD Express, and email, and stored training files.
In other words: "I'll trade you problems." Hahaha!
Blessings,
Sarah

Post 28 by ADVOCATOR! (Finally getting on board!) on Tuesday, 16-Jan-2018 18:01:39

To explain:
I use an account, so that my user account can't access the major parts of the computer. It's the only safe way to keep viruses from eating your computer up. I've had family get stuck with the Ransom Virus, and no thanks. If it takes some extra stuff, so be it. Just I wish they'd not force the windows10 updates on us.
Blessings,
Sarah

Post 29 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 16-Jan-2018 21:09:15

This might help if you're not seeing that box.
Go to settings.
tab until you get on the second advanced. That's the update.
set it to not automaticly update.
If you need more instruction on how to get there say.

Post 30 by forereel (Just posting.) on Tuesday, 16-Jan-2018 21:10:16

I'm using Windows 10 latest and the latest Jaws, so that may be why I see the check box and you can not.
Same with others that can.

Post 31 by forereel (Just posting.) on Wednesday, 17-Jan-2018 16:51:59

Okay. I had been running Skype without signing out just allowing my computer to sleep until I required it.
Today I restarted and I saw the message again offering the latest version. It just invites me to try it.
I only had try it now, or not now, but no check box.
I have my computer set to not install or update automatically, so it doesn’t.
So, again, if you don’t sign off, it stays at bay. At least on my Windows 10 computer it does.
